‘Tis the season.. for best wishes & good impressions

I’ve already gone through the hard part, meeting the family. But I have always strived to make good impressions, especially when it comes to my friends parents, and even more specifically -the boyfriend’s family. I was pondering what to give people, and recently I have had to jump through some loops and be in contact with Drew’s mom. No matter how many hints I have thrown his way, he still insisted on buying himself ‘gifts’ before Christmas even happened. And just my luck, he was trying to buy himself the gift I have already gotten him. I really wouldn’t care too much, but the gift I got him was customized and I feared that I would not be able to return it. Then just to make things even better, yesterday, while I asked his teammates to help me keep Drew from buying this gift. They informed me he already told his parents to get him the same gift. His teammates said Drew talked details about what he wanted and that they were pretty sure his parents were getting him the gift already. So I immediately texted his mom, told her my situation, explained that I had already customized it, payed for it & received it. She was so understanding and agreed to lead him on that they would get him the gift, in hopes he doesn’t ask his other father for the same gift as well. She also was so sweet to explain that gift gift is ‘too expensive for me to buying him, and he has no money to be buying super expensive …. ‘(I’ll insert the word after we exchange gifts).

A 1st Ever ‘Megan Original Holiday Basket’

While picking up popcorn and Starbucks this morning at Safeway before Drew & I took part in a movie marathon & homework day, I cruised up and down the isles looking for the perfect items to combine for a unique homemade (and a less expensive gift them buying all 3 of his family members individual gifts) holiday gift basket. Please know, this is the first time I have tried to actually put together a decent looking, realistic gift basket to someone. Also, lucky for me Drew is the most unhelpful shopper ever was kept trying to pick the most useless items. (sarcasm, he is not helpful at all when shopping in a grocery store)

Whats Inside?

  1. Lindt excellence seasalt dark chocolate
  2. Lindt excellence chili dark chocolate
  3. A Box of Whoopers
  4. Caribou Coffee || Caribou Blend
  5. Siracha’s Cousin: Huy Fong Vietnamese Chili Garlic Sauce
  6. Basque Meat Tenderizer Barbecue Sauce
  7. Caramel’s
  8. ‘Blue Tine Christmas Cookies’ Royal Dansk Danish Butter Cookies
  9. A bag of ‘Santa’s Coal’

Items 1-3 are mostly for Drew’s mom, the chocolate lover. 4-6 are mostly for his dad, who is the cook & coffee lover of the group. And the last two are for his younger brother. When I asked Drew what his brother likes he answers “He likes getting into trouble”. So fought that was perfect him. I assume everyone will share everything, but in my eyes some would enjoy certain things more then others. I am also adding a holiday card to the basket as well to top it all off. Items I am most intrigued by: the meat tenderizer, the chili dark chocolate & the garlic chili paste.

After putting it all together I am actually proud of how it looks. I found the basket from goodwill, it was actually not for sale and meant to hold other miscellaneous junk. But after the cashier told me I couldn’t have it and to pick other I threw a mini stubborn act and put on my sad face. Eventually she gave in and sol it to me. I want this one because it actually looked  like it could fit all the goodies and didn’t look like a used piece of crap. I also lucked out and found a whole thing of new tissues paper. lastly, I need to find the clear covering to put over it. But I may send it home with drew like this, I think it looks good just the way it is 🙂 I have asked Drew probably 30 times already today if he thinks his family will like it. Hopefully, in the future I get more opportunities to make baskets like it, it was a lot of fun finding different things to put gather for a special group of people. I think this will mean more to this parents then buying them a gift card or something that lacks thought. Another huge plus is, I don’t have to mail anything.. I tend not to send anyone gifts because the shipping ends up costing me just as much. Hope you like it! 🙂

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Tomorrow could lead to a new begining

Tomorrow is a pretty interesting day for the Lobos boy. The MPC Baseball has a scout day. Now, I know I do not fully understand baseball and all of the politics involved, but all I know is scouts mean opportunities. Opportunities means my best friend and boyfriend could get seen by someone who could make a difference in his future of playing baseball. A year ago the talk of major leagues I don’t think was taken seriously in my boyfriends eyes, of course he always thought it would be cool, but baseball was more of a sport he played and  hoped to play throughout college. But last season, when his coach told him that maybe he could get seen by some pretty cool colleges and maybe even start his path to majors, he decided to work hard and try his best to become the amazing pitcher that he is today.

1239550_10201339913974122_873257159_n

Now, like I said I really know nothing about baseball. I love watching it, but really only because of him. So of course in my eyes.. he is the best! I am am really excited for him to get seen tomorrow, but with that being said… I still think in a selfish manner. What if his dream takes him away from me? When it comes down to it, what I want doesn’t really matter, his future is his future, but it’s been a long long time since I have found a guy I consider my best friend more then my boyfriend. He is the first guy that when something goes wrong, the first thing in my mind isn’t ‘wow this won’t work out’, but ‘I really love him’. He says all the time that he wants to be with me forever. But he tends to not think before he speaks. At this point in my life, I would be completely content if I was told tomorrow I was stuck with him forever, because there truly isn’t anyone that I have meet thus far who could put up with me as well as he does. Nor is there someone who I can tolerate spending so much time with, guy or girl. I have best friends, who I have been neglecting to the full recently, but even if we were to spend the week+ my man and I spent in Palm Springs together, or as many evening that we spend together, I may kill them! My boo and I have both agreed that somehow, someway, we are able to not get sick of one another. Even when we feel that we are at that point we just roll over, say good night and wake up the next day ready to be together.

Well, the purpose of this ramble is to express my stupidity and fears that tomorrow brings. Even though it is only scout day, and it truly at this point in the year has no affect on our relationship, it still makes me think of the future. This makes me evaluate the importance, appreciation and love I truly do have for my man, for my best friend.  And I just need to hold onto and enjoy the time we do have together, because we never know where his future… or mine… could take us.

Back doing what I love: Drawing

There is something about taking a photo, or an item in front of you and recording it with your pencil. There is something about the struggle of getting the right shading. There is something about learning more.

I love all forms of art, but something about drawing truly captures my heart. Amonsgt the stress of classes, friends and getting my shit together for life, art has always been there is support my mental health. Whether is be music while I study or drawing which completely sucks me into a sort of trance, the arts are truly a gift from God. Art has saved my life a time or two and it has helped life me out of some of the most depressing times of my life. I am thankful for my family and friends and their attempts to keep me sane, but honestly I think if i was not enrolled in art classes my sophomore year and senior year I would still be here, or at least at the level of self-satisfaction I have with my life. ARt blessed me another time, second semester freshmen year. I was at a point where I wasn’t sure where I was going in life, if being in college was for me. But after taking that class it really made me fall in love with my school. Not only the class did this, but the people in your art class did this for me. Art classes are different then you major focused or math & English classes, because anyone will be in them. You can have the frat star sitting next to the Starbuck’s worker, next to that girl whose taking to fill a GE. It really amazes me the different souls in art classes. Those classes are also some of the least judgmental classes I have ever taken, and at that point I was well over my freshmen 15, yet people were always focused on my sketches and not my body.

I find myself, two years later, finally sitting in an art room again. I have been waiting to draw once again.  It is a Life Drawing class and I am very excited to draw the body and face, because faces and bodies are my weakest points. Something about how complex the body is that makes it near impossible for me, but I think the greatest factor I have on my side in this call is my professor! He is literally the most adorable professor I have ever had, and so far my second favorite art teacher, and we are only on day 3 of classes!

Sorry if you don’t like art, or don’t like what I post, but this is a place for me to express myself. As the semester goes on I will continue to post my progress. Below is our first lesson, Grids & the Skull. (1) We first did a step by step drawing on a grid of the profile view of the skull. (2) We then did an on our own with the grid of the front view of the skull. (3) Finally we were sent home with the task to draw the front view without a grid.

A Week of Outfits

First Night Out-
photo (16)
Sassy summer floral top, with boots and hair done. I thought about going all out with this outfit, but I knew The people I’d see weren’t really worth it. Of course, I am worth the extra effort, but I knew the type of people I was going to see were my low key, grunge skater friends. Surprisingly, I really really enjoyed this outfit… far more I thought I was going too while getting ready!

Second Night Out-
photo (18)
Party skirt kind of night. And plus I actually shaved my legs… aka have to wear a skirt 🙂 boots and my best friends shirt which I have stolen from her for over a year. The was a good outfit in my opinion. And I actually did my hair aging that night. anyone who knows my, blow dryer and i do not get along! But some days you just need that extra effort to make yourself feel extra confident.

First Dinner Date-
photo (19)
My boo and I had a little special dinner date in order to celebrate him trowing his first bullpen of the fall season. Even though I may not know a lot about baseball in itself, I know the importance and the tool it takes on  his body. The least I could do was take him out for a yummy meal. We tried a new place… El Cantaro in Monterey, CA. it was really good, but I don’t know if we will ever really go back. Even though the food was good, there really wasn’t anything special to keep me coming back. But Drew was going through his meatless phase so I thought it would be a fun little change up.

~I know these photos may not be the best, but like I have said over and over again this blog is really meant as a personal diary and a way for me to keep track and notes of my adventures and life~

-Dinner for two-

3 Months & Counting

photo 1 (1)

So as part of this whole ‘Drew having a job and making money’ & being together for 3 months he wanted to spoil me… but I think he wanted to spoil himself as well (and who could blame him?).  He has a new job and has been working very hard all summer and I was over the moon excited when he told me we were going out for a fancy dinner date. I went and bought a simple black dress, threw on a floral covering top over and slipped on some new heels that I spent all week trying to break in. I got this new (& pretty cheap -only 20 bucks plus free shipping!) heels from K-Mart, of all places! I tried this new strappy style because when we were pretending to be millionaires in all of the stores at the Palm Springs Outlets I found out he has a weird obsession and liking for this style. So I figure why not? But anyone who knows me… knows I really do not wear heels often. So I dedicated 20-30 minutes almost every single morning and night to practicing in my heels… which probably did save me from an embarrassing evening. I only tripped once! And it was on a super bumpy part of a cross walk at Cannery Row (basically, it was totally excusable!) Luckily for me, before even getting in the car and leaving his apartment complex Drew almost ate shit down the stairs… which just made me feel a little more confident seeing as he was not in heels.

We ate at Chart House in Monterey, Ca. The best part was that he kept it a surprise up until the moment we drove past it. I was honestly so excited once I knew where we would be going. I have had friends and family rave about how great of a place it was, but have never been myself. And I LOVED IT!!! I think we may have both felt like a billion dollars. Drew was dressed to impress 20 times more then me! He wore a suit, french cuff shirt, tie and dress shoes (hair slicked back, of course). And oh my, did he looked so freaking handsome! I guess you could say he cleans up pretty nicely!

Dinner in a nutshell:

So after a few hours of sleep that seemed to fly by, I woke to a soft knock on the door. Drew’s dad was waking us up 8 minutes before our alarm. Sad Day. But we got up and got ready, and once again his father was a saint with coffee made and even cooked us breakfast! We had a little mini photo shoot with both his dad, step-mom, Drew & I. Then we were off. We go into Beverly Hills area for Drew’s early morning dentist appt. We walked around a little, but then cruised over and toured around some of the UCLA housing and Frat Houses. We then parked in Woodlands (I think) and walked about the little downtown.

Breakfast at Barney’s Beanery & UCLA area

After walking around for a little while, we finally settled down and ate an amazing breakfast! Pictured above is Drew striking a pose, a building I really liked, the menu of the place we ate at, Drew’s breakfast and my breakfast. I had a sort of french toast sandwich with blueberries and cream cheese then smothered in maple syrup. Over all we had a lot of fun walking around downtown. While we ate there was even a little group of college kids that were on a scavenger hunt and asked us for help. We checked out a few stores here & there.

Venice Beach, CA

After breakfast we busted a mission over to Venice Beach, which really was the only request I had while we were in SoCal. To my knowledge I have never been there, so I wanted to see the well-known place. We had a lot of fun! We walked so much, but even though we were dead tired, we still somehow enjoyed it! Of course, I captured as many pictures as possible! And a nice lady even took a photo of us (Which is my personal favorite of us two from the Palm Springs trip). After getting back to the car we finally headed towards Redondo Beach. Drew drove me up and down streets and took me by this high school, which is the largest high school campus this side of the Mississippi (just a fun fact!). It was nice to see where he grew up and where he is from. It made it a lot easier to connect stories to places, now when he rants on and on about a story I can kind of picture as actual place!

PV (Palace Verdes, CA)

After leaving Venice Beach we were both beat. Honestly how we were still awake and sane is beyond me. We both agreed that if we were with anyone else we probably would not still be in a chipper or happy mood. After we were done taking a first tour of Redondo Beach we then drove up to this beautiful area, PV. Drew and I always do this thing where we drive around nice houses and joke around about which one we are going to buy. It’s actually a lot of fun since I have a weird obsession with homes. So he took me to PV, we stopped for a little photo shoot and this spot where you can see everything! We drove up and down the streets looking at all of the absolutely over the top gorgeous homes! We stopped by the well-know home, the ‘White House’ (pictured above). We stopped there for a little while, Drew always rants and raves about this home and the other around it, so it was nice to see what he is taking about. I also got to see where he now goes to Temple and where he used to go to Temple. I saw a couple famous people homes, a few of his friends houses and then finally saw where he lives. He lives in this super cute beach house, it wasn’t really what I expected to be Drew’s house, but non the less I enjoyed touring it.

We saw his dad’s new Mercedes which is a really big deal! It was beautiful! We also got to go serve papers, which was pretty cool. Finally, we ate some grub and hung out in their garage playing ping pong with Drew’s dad, brother and the two foreign exchange students that they are housing. He mom got home from playing cards with her friends. Oh and I also gave Drew his gift! He finally opened it! only like 3 days late, but that’s okay! i got him a 2014 Memorial Day Dodgers Hat & a two sided picture frame with 9 or the 1993 pitchers from the LA Dodgers with a pocket schedule from 1993. It was honestly pretty sweet, I am very proud of it! I am sure I will eventually post photos of it! I got tucked into the couch for the night and said goodnight to my booboo before he went to sleep on his little brothers floor – the foreign exchange students took over Drew’s room!

[{Palm Springs Recap}] A week ago today: Feelin’ like a Million Bucks & Meeting the Pops

Recap: Friday, 7/18 2014

Take two on being woken from our slumber by one of Drew’s friends knocking on the door, and thank goodness! It was the morning of check out and we just spent the last hour or so partially waking up to his alarm and falling back asleep. But apparently in these villas if you do not call the front desk and check out by 10AM then you are charged an extra $800 for over staying your welcome… so I was rather happy to have been woken at 9:20 by the pounding on the front door. Luckily I packed up all of my things and most of the food the night before, so the next 30 minutes were spend carrying most of the things to the car and somehow organizing it. Sometimes, men really are not the most helpful in the morning or when trying to quickly do something (-.-).

So after packing the car, calling the front desk and going through the Starbucks drive through, we were off… making out first pit stop, in-n-out. Now, we were finally on our way! Until I saw the outlets, second pit stop!  While spending a few hours walking around Hugo Boss, Prada, TAG huer,  Alexander McQueen, Eli Tahari, Valentino and Jimmy Choo -just some of my favs!-, Drew’s dad invited us over to go wine tasting and stay the night at his home in Temecula. I was pretty excited to meet the dad, since I have heard a lot about him! I successfully navigated us to his dad’s house and thank goodness for his father’s soul, he greeted us with coffee! I literally was so tired I probably could have fallen asleep standing up. After downing a coffee, we were off to our first wine-tasting experience. And I loved it! I am not a big wine drinker at all, but it was the entire experience I enjoyed. It was a super intimate winery and the tasting room was outside, sort of wooden bar set up. We tried a few different wines and they were all so different. One wine was a red, and part of its description was ‘tastes like a man’. Of course our high level of maturity had a lot of fun with hat one! After going to this one, we went to a second… which was a lot more like the traditional wine tasting set up, crowded a car inside a really nice building. I tried this dessert wine, which literally tasted so freakin good! So Drew and I bought out first wine bottle and it is currently sitting in his apartment waiting for a special occasion to be opened. Hopefully to be share with my good friend and her man!

After returning from wine tasting, we bought some cheese and headed over to Drew’s dad friends home where they had an assortment of snacks that we happily helped consume. Finally we all gathered around their TV and watch Zoolander together, I tried my hardest to stay awake. But by 7 I was pretty much ready to pass out. We headed back to his dad’s house and finally got ready for bed, the strangest thing on this whole trip… was that his dad had no problem letting us share a room (door closed and all). Obviously I was overjoyed to pass out next to my boo!

[{Palm Springs Recap}] A week ago today: Winding Down & Bubble Baths

Recap: Thursday, 7/17 2014

A day to recover! Finally waking up in a room that we belonged in, even though morning came far too early one more time,  we were forced to wake up to another amazing meal cooked by Drew’s step dad and to the stress of his family packing up all of their belongings. As his family packed up their car and headed home, we headed to the pool to meet a few of the guys. I was so excited to get to spend some real vacation time with my man… or at least I thought. But instead of relaxing at the pool together, the boy decided to cram in one last golf session while still on vacation. So I enjoyed my half hour in the hot tub, made him buy me a drink and then I vegged out in the villa until he came back from golf. Not that swimming alone didn’t sound like oobers of fun… something about a warm bubble bath in the huge master suites tub sounded even better. So I moved the TV into viewing from the tub, filled it and slide into relaxation.

photo (2)

After about two hours and finishing the movie 42 I finally got out of the tub… Drew said golf would take 4 hours… but judging by how lone yesterdays gold session took, I knew I had more like 6.

photo (1)

So I stuffed my face a little, drank a little, but mostly channel surfed while I laid in the Master bed (only after finding every single pillow in the villa and lying on top of them all). After the lack of sleep over the past few days I found myself struggling to keep my eyes open for the next hour or two, until I just gave in. What could a nap hurt?? Sometime Drew finally made it back for some reason thanked me for letting him go golfing… I was really thrown off as to why he was thanking me, this wasn’t my vacation, this was his. I figured it was because one of the other girlfriends was very upset that her man left her for most of the last day. I guess I could kind of see where she was coming from, but like I said it wasn’t my vacation, it was his.

We headed to the pool one last time before changing and joining the other ‘kids’ for one last night of drinking. Tonight wasn’t as crazy as the past night, and I was more than happy with that! A dad and uncle joined us for rounds of kings cup until around 12:30 ~ 1 when everyone headed off to bed. Aka we all left the main room, returned to ours, ate tons of left overs we had, packed up a little and then probably all watched the same movie until we passed out.
Mind you, next day we had to be packed up and out by 10!
